Objectives and Action Strategies
Last Update 12/14/2011
During the 2010-2011 school year, teachers and administrators formed a team including parents to fulfill state requirements in regard to school improvement. This is known as the W.I.S.E. program, or Ways To Improve School Effectiveness. A year-long plan was developed and submitted to the state.
In summary, a three-legged approach was identified in terms of school improvement, including:
- CAT Leadership. Implementation of CAT (Child Assistance Teams) which will meet twice monthly to discuss student progress in terms of academic and behavioral terms. Data discussed are gathered from information input by teachers and administrators into the Systems of Care software as well as information gathered from the classroom walk-through visits conducted by administration.
- Classroom Walk-through Process. Administrators will conduct short 3-4 minute visits to measure classroom instruction and climate. Information gathered is compiled and discussed at the above CAT meetings. Information gathered is crucial in the professional development process.
- Professional Development. Plans for professional development will be based on needs identified in the CAT meetings as well as data gathered from the classroom walk-through visits.
In all, eighty-six effective school indicators were reviewed by the team. The above plan was developed from recurring themes in the investigative process. The plan is presently working well and has resulted in fewer discipline referrals as well as an increase in academic performance. We are presently refining and maintaining the existing plan through the WISE software available through the state.
